North of Cora on the Upper Green, on the sage flat where the Wind Rivers start. Land so rugged it wasn’t homesteaded until the 1940s. No neighbors in sight, and a gravel road in.
The elk come down through the willows first. Then the moose, unhurried.
By the time the coffee is poured the range has gone pink from the bottom up, and you are still on the deck in a blanket, having accomplished nothing at all.
This isn’t a resort. It’s not a mansion in a suburb. It’s about as far out there as you can get, and most people who stay once come back.

Fish before breakfast; stand in Grand Teton before lunch.
The Green River gives you twenty miles of public water and almost nobody on the bank. That is the neighborhood.
Trailheads, water, and the high country. Most of it inside an hour.
Cora has a post office and not much else. Pinedale and the lodges up the road have the rest.

02Trailhead on foot into the Bridger Wilderness. New Fork Lakes ten minutes out. Light on the deck until nearly ten at night. Bring bug spray.
03Serious hunting country in every direction, mule deer and elk, aspens turning on the benches, and the valley more or less to yourself.
04Five minutes to the Upper Green snowmobile lot. Ice fishing, the fireplace, and a great deal of silence.

We had wildlife come in every evening, including elk, moose, and a buck that walked right up to our window.
